What does Botox treat?

What is Botox?
The product is a naturally derived, safe injectable liquid that relaxes the muscles preventing over movement and the creation of creases and lines for a beautifully refreshed look. Botox® Cosmetic contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein.
Who is/is not a good candidate for Botox?
Most all are good candidates for this treatment but let your provider know if you have any neurological issues or allergies.
Where on the body can Botox be used?
Botox® can be used in many areas of the face and therapeutically to treat migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), and eye twitching. Typically, Botox® is used for the treatment of lines and wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), between the brows (the eleven’s), a brow lift (opens the eye area), and smoothing forehead furrows. Other less common areas are just above the bow of the upper lip to prevent the common inward turn of aging or the area on each side of the mouth that causes a permanent frown.
How does Botox work?
Upon injection, after about 4-7 days the treatment works to inhibit the muscle receptors preventing movement. This smooths creases and wrinkles for a refreshed and relaxed look.
Is Botox painful?
No. The injections are done with a very small needle and nearly everyone tolerates the treatment with zero numbing cream.
How long is a Botox appointment?
The treatment itself is super quick. An average number of units (40) can be completed in 15 minutes. Many opt to get the treatment on their lunch hour.

You will start to see the effects in 4-7 days and it lasts usually 3-6 months.
How many Botox treatments do I need?
The product only requires one treatment but the number of units per patient varies based on your personal concerns and goals. The correction is temporary and you will require future treatment to maintain optimal results.
How do I prepare for my Botox appointment?
There is not much preparation involved. The provider will remove any makeup or products in the areas to be injected. The skin will also be prepped with a topical antiseptic to prevent the introduction of bacteria during the injections.
What should I do or expect post Botox treatment?
Your provider may advise you to not lay flat for 4 hours post treatment, avoid exercise, saunas and hot tubs for 24 hours post treatment.
What are the common risks, side effect or concerns with Botox?
As with any injection you make experience injection site side effects such as redness, pain or swelling. These are infrequent, short term and can be treated with ice packs. If you experience muscle drooping such as around the eye or brow, consult your provider.
